I’ve been on a bit of a Netflix binge over the past weeks, discovering documentaries and TV series I hadn’t heard of. Some shows are hit and miss but that’s the beauty of Netflix; you can try something and if you don’t like it, move on to something else.
The best I’ve seen so far are Blackfish which is a documentary and Call the midwife; a TV series.
Blackfish was a real eye opener for me. I originally put it on thinking I would be watching a feel-good documentary about the lives of Killer Whales and was quickly whipped back to the reality of Killer Whales living inside theme parks. The documentary went through the training and living conditions of Killer Whales, how they were captured and interviews of previous trainers. Although it was tough to watch and certainly eye-opening, I recommend watching it if only to see what an animal kept for entertainment purposes experiences during their life.
Call the midwife is a British period drama that I’ve read about but only just started watching. Just started as in one week ago and I am already halfway through season two…and the episodes are an hour long if that gives any indication of the screen time I have had this past week. The series is based around the main character – Jenny Lee, a midwife who lives in a convent in the East end of London. The storyline details the trials and tribulations of midwifes of the time. I find the show to be light and humerous with a few heavier storylines here and there.
Have you watched any news shows or documentaries lately? What would you recommend?
